Sybil Gage performs to a packed house every Tuesday night at Heidi’s Famous Jazz Club (Chosen as "Top 100 Jazz Clubs in the World" Downbeat Mag. 2012, 2013, 2014) in Cocoa Beach Florida where she has been since 2009. Locals and tourists alike are transported back in time to Sybil’s hometown, New Orleans. The “Little Dynamo” as Heidi calls her, is slinky in sequins, funky in fishnets , and tantalizing in her trademark powder puff pumps. Did I mention hats! Sybil sings Pre War Blues, Vaudeville and Traditional Jazz and many outstanding original tunes that fit seamlessly into her vast repertoire. Sybil calls her music "Vagabond Swing" She has become the darling of the east coast, enchanting audiences as she slips easily in and out of the genres, with a clear powerful voice which yields to emotion. No wonder she has been able to open for such diverse acts as "Big Bill" Morganfield, John Waite, Zydeco Queen Rosie Ledet, Dave Mason and also share the stage with Trombonist Glen David Andrews. Her stage is decorated with boas and hat boxes. She says they remind her of her days working in the Chris Owens Club on Bourbon St. as a costume valet . “When Mrs. Owens got off the stage I was there to help her out of and into a quick change of costume”. Now Gage shines on her own with 3 outstanding CD’s of original material. Her debut CD RED ( 2007) , rose to critical acclaim. NOLA CALLING (2010) was nominated for “Best Self Produced CD” by the International Blues Competition ( IBC) in Memphis. Sybil's third CD "Ice Cold Blues" is scheduled for a Fall 2014 release. WWOZ’s Gentilly Jr. says of NOLA Calling “ I was eagerly awaiting it’s release and I wasn’t disappointed. Great songwriting and great musicianship.” Sybil performs regularly in the Space Coast Jazz Society Concert Series. She has returned to headline the New Smyrna Beach Jazz Festival 7 times, and attributes her success to the unique experience of growing up in New Orleans . “When you hear that much good music , all the time, it’s bound to rub off on you.” Sybil’s first job out of High School was as an on air personality at WYLD FM. Florida Today calls Sybil Gage “The Undisputed Queen of Local Jazz”. Her fans call THEMSELVES “Sybilized” , and they wear T Shirts proudly, inviting others to be similarly anointed. Sybil Gage wears New Orleans proudly. Gage is the host of the weekly radio show "Sybil Gage's Stormy Monday Show which airs every Saturday at 6pm EDT 1300wmel.com.
